A fascination with religion

With a PhD in comparative literature, Maeve Maddox has read widely in the literature of world religions. A topic of special interest to her is the many forms of Christianity that have developed from the teachings of a first-century rabbi from the Galilean backwater of Roman Palestine. Her novel, The More Things Change, explores some aspects of the Christianity that had become dominant in the Roman empire by the early fifth century.

A preoccupation with teaching

Maeve has spent most of her life as a classroom teacher, in the United States and in England, at every level, from elementary to university. Her interest in religion began in childhood, when her special hero was Joan of Arc. Her interest in writing began when an aunt sent her a subscription to Jack and Jill Magazine. One of her greatest thrills came many years later, when she sold her first story to that magazine.  She sold her first two novels to David C. Cook, but then teaching, child-rearing, and advanced study put fiction writing on a back burner until the 2000s.

Return to writing

In 2008, Maeve found her way back to non-academic writing when she joined the staff of the international language blog, DailyWritingTips. In addition to writing some 1,000 essays for that site, she self-published several books on English usage. She also published a film guide to six feature films about Joan of Arc. A Joan for All Seasons compares the films to what is known about the historical woman.

Back to fiction

In 2021, Maeve returned to her love of fiction, publishing a cozy mystery set in 1980s London: The Fabergé Flute.
