I was pleased to see a positive review of my historical novel, The More Things Change, published in the February 2026 issue of the Historical Novel Society.

The Historical Novel Society, founded in 1997 in the UK by Richard Lee, is devoted to the promotion of and advocacy for the genre of historical fiction.

My cozy mystery, The Fabergé Flute, set in 1980s London, is listed as a “historical novel” by its publisher, The Wild Rose Press, but the HNS takes a broader view of what constitutes the genre:

any novel written at least fifty years after the events described, or by a person who was not alive at the time of the events and approaches them from a research perspective.

The More Things Change is set in the fifth century Roman Empire and is, as far as possible, true to the times. However, the HNS also recognizes the place of alternative histories,  historical fantasies, and multiple-period novels as belonging to the genre of historical fiction.

The Historical Novel Society is open to both authors and readers of historical novels. Check out membership at their website.
